The hardworking “Sunday Property Team” sure looked strong last week when about 25 people stayed to help make our Church more beautiful and ready for the winter! The vents were cleaned, the kitchen was freshened up, and the floor was washed with vinegar. With such a nice day many leaves were raked or mulched up inside the fenced area and around the church. Pesty small leaves were raked off the roof and the gutters were cleaned around the church. There were probably other tasks completed and I apologize for not recognizing them here. All enjoyed a delicious lunch together to celebrate their 1-hour effort! Thank you to everyone who stayed for whatever time they could. All efforts were appreciated.
If you had other obligations or plans and couldn’t help, there is another Congregational Workday after Church on Sunday, November 17th with work needing to be done inside and outside. It’s about an hour of fellowship working together!
The Property Team has been in transition over the last month. Dave Mercer has stepped down as the leader after over 20 years of service and many significant projects brought to completion. We have been blessed by his ministry. He has completed numerous fix-it jobs, returned to the Church in the evening to check on repairs, communicated back and forth with contractors regarding quotes, and served as our “clerk of the works” for big and small tasks. Dave’s ingenuity and skills has solved problems through his work arounds, saved the Church money, and improved how our Church building functions.
The reason for the transition of the Thursday Property Team is due to a range of reasons but they basically come down to the core number of participants has dwindled, time availability is inconsistent, and an increase in the upkeep and repairs of our well maintained, but aging Church building. Like everything change happens and so too will this ministry. The Council has formed a Task Force to make a plan moving forward for how the oversight, maintenance, repairs, and new projects will be carried out. Until this work is completed, the Thursday Property Team will continue to meet when people are available (9:00am) to complete the tasks most important as we move into winter.
